Could Mike Olmsted Make The Brewers?
As a relative unknown, Mike Olmsted came to Salem and enjoyed an All-Star first half in 2012 (1.44 ERA, 14 saves, 37 K, 5 BB in 25 IP). After he was promoted to Double-A Portland, he was even more dominant (0.00 ERA, 3 saves, 31 K, 7 BB, in 20 IP). He became a minor league free agent when the season ended, and the Milwaukee Brewers earned his services by adding him to their 40-man roster, a tremendous accomplishment for a guy who’s baseball career nearly ended a few years back.
Here’s a MLB.com video interview with Big Mike Olmsted, sporting a fantastic beard, as he bids to go straight from A-ball in 2012 to the big leagues in 2013.
And for a little more from Mike, here’s an interview that I did with him last July:
